Development Report 26


Hello Fommunity,

Yesterday we patched the revision of the takeover system like we described in the Closed Beta Report - Part 25 (http://forum.fomportal.com/showthread.php?t=15420).


The triggering of a final battle has been reworked as well. There are no more fixed evaluation days and the cycle is no longer fixed to one in-game month. The final battle times are now calculated based on the activity changes of each faction. The internals of this revised mechanic are rather complicated, but it can be summed up as follows:


To qualify for final battle a faction must reach a certain amount of activity. Then, each newly added activity per 30 minutes (real-time) will add to the faction's progress to trigger a final battle. Once there are 2 qualified opposing factions and one of them reaches the maximum progress, the battle will begin. If a faction is currently owning the world, it will always be one of the opponents.

Activity points and progress are internal values, which are not displayed on the client to keep things as simple as possible. The client will display the activity bar chart as usual and will also display the estimated remaining time until the final battle starts.

Because we placed 6 energy nodes and 2 power plants on every colony we needed to change DeMorgan's Castle a bit. Large parts of the prison area are now open to the public. We also added 6 more vortex nodes to make faction specific entry nodes work on DeMorgan's Castle.

Reworking the takeover system took a lot of time. Therefore we do not have a lot of new stuff to tell you this week. We are currently waiting on the first Final Battle to successfully start so we can see if everything is working how we hoped it would. We will write something about this for the Development Update from next week.
